Serena and Venus Williams Get Last-Minute Wild Card to Play Doubles at US Open for First Time Since 2022

Serena and Venus Williams, the renowned tennis siblings, will compete in doubles at the US Open for the first time in four years. The American power couple, who have won 14 Grand Slam doubles titles together, received wildcard entries from the United States Tennis Association (USTA). Their last appearance as a team at a major tournament was at the 2022 US Open, which marked Serena's final match before transitioning away from the sport.

Serena, now 44, returned to doubles at Wimbledon's June qualifying event before sustaining a knee injury that forced her withdrawal from the women's doubles, where she was paired with Venus.

Venus, 46, has maintained an sporadic presence on the WTA Tour in recent years, participating in singles and doubles events. They reunited at the Cincinnati Open in August, losing to Marta Kostyuk and Peyton Stearns, with Venus competing in the US Open mixed doubles event alongside Carlos Alcaraz. Venus has also earned a wildcard for the singles, which begins on Sunday, 30 August.

The Williams sisters, who have never lost a major doubles final together, will start their tournament on either Thursday, 3 September or Friday, 4 September.
