Sen. Darline Graham projected to win runoff in South Carolina GOP Senate primary

South Carolina Republican Senator Darline Graham has been projected to win the special primary runoff to fill the seat vacated by her late brother, Sen. Lindsey Graham, on Tuesday night, according to CBS News. Lindsey Graham, a four-term senator, passed away last month, prompting his sister to run for the remaining term in November.

While President Trump endorsed Darline Graham's campaign, other Republicans, including Rep. Ralph Norman, also entered the race. In the Aug. 11 special primary, both candidates received nearly a third of the vote, necessitating a runoff. The runoff saw Darline Graham emphasizing her problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and leadership, despite lacking elected office experience.

She highlighted her years of service to South Carolina, including her role as commissioner of the South Carolina Commission for the Blind. As the race progressed, she acknowledged her lack of national security expertise, while Norman focused on his conservative legislative background. Trump's support, including an $800,000 PAC effort, helped secure Graham's victory.

The race is expected to remain in GOP control, as South Carolina hasn't elected a Democrat to the Senate since 1998.
