‘Rules matter’: PGA Tour refuses to open door for LIV stars amid DeChambeau exit rumours

LOS ANGELES, Aug 26 — PGA Tour chief executive Brian Rolapp announced yesterday that the organization has no current plans to provide a pathway back for LIV Golf stars such as Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm. Launched in 2022, LIV Golf caused a stir by spending billions of dollars to lure top players away from the traditional PGA, but the tour's future is now uncertain as it lost its Saudi investors.

Despite promising a streamlined "2.0" version next year with new investors, several key players have been linked with potential exits. Rolapp explained that the PGA Tour has not offered a "Returning Member Programme" like previously, as it currently bans LIV players from its events, insisting that any player wishing to return must completely sever ties with LIV.

Rolapp emphasized that "rules matter," and that accountability and discipline are vital for any organization and the integrity of the TOUR. He added that it is impossible to speculate on the future return of other LIV players because he does not know the future of LIV itself. PGA Tour officials have been consistent in requiring players interested in returning to demonstrate that they are relieved of their contractual commitments or any tail obligations in the legacy model.

Bryson DeChambeau, who was one of the first LIV players to return to the PGA Tour in January, paid financial penalties but was not granted another opportunity, according to Rolapp. On Monday, DeChambeau posted an enigmatic Instagram post with images of several LIV victories and the caption "It was a good run."
