In 2023, Malaysia announced the approval of 367 development projects for underdeveloped schools amounting to a total of RM9 billion across the nation. Education Minister Wong Kah Woh revealed that this significant sum is the largest in the past four years and aims to expedite the redevelopment of school buildings for student safety.

The funding will be allocated across four years: RM1.711 billion for 86 projects in 2023, RM1.825 billion for 78 projects in 2024, RM4.1 billion for 124 projects in 2025, and RM1.384 billion for 79 projects in 2026.

The minister emphasized that the duration of project implementation depends on the scope, specifications, and location of each project, typically taking about two years after approval and contractor appointment. For example, the RM2.9 million project for SJKC Kampung Coldstream began construction on May 24, 2024, and was completed by August 6, 2024. The new building features various modern amenities such as four spacious classrooms, two new toilets, and an open-air pavilion for students and teachers.

Wong also highlighted that these modern facilities, including 120 sets of new chairs and desks, and Smart TV units provided by the Education Department (JPN) and District Education Office (PPD), create a conducive learning environment for students. Meanwhile, the special classrooms used as temporary schools have been returned to their original purpose.
