Ridley Scott Is Developing an Alien: Covenant Sequel With Michael Fassbender

Ridley Scott is working on a new installment in the Alien franchise, following up on the events of Alien: Covenant. During an interview with the LA Times, the director confirmed he is still developing a sequel, with a focus on the character played by Michael Fassbender, David. The upcoming film would see David creating a "brave new world for himself" and dealing with AI issues.

This character was first introduced in Scott's prequel, Prometheus, and returned in Alien: Covenant. The end of Covenant suggested that David's story had not yet concluded, but the follow-up had been stuck in development limbo for nearly a decade. The financial failure of Covenant and Fox's acquisition by Disney may have contributed to the delays.

Despite this, the Alien IP remains active, with FX's Alien: Earth series and 2024's Alien: Romulus, which was a commercial success, currently in production. Additionally, there is a highly-anticipated Alien: Isolation 2 game in development. While the release date for Scott's new Alien sequel remains uncertain, he is currently occupied with other projects, including The Dog Stars and Treasure Planet adaptation, all of which are set to begin filming in November.

Scott, who is 88 years old, has no plans to retire from filmmaking just yet. However, it remains to be seen if he can deliver the next Alien movie within the next few years. Fox is also working on a sequel to Alien: Romulus, but there is no information regarding its release timeline.
