Repeat traffic violations captured under TraffiTech could lead to licence revocation – ACP Obeng

Alexander Kweku Obeng, Director of Education, Research and Training for the Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), has announced that the new traffic enforcement system, TraffiTech, will allow the police to target individuals who repeatedly break traffic laws. If caught committing multiple offenses within a year, drivers could potentially lose their licenses and be banned from driving for a year.

During a recent interview on JoyFM Super Morning Show, Obeng explained that captured traffic violations would first be relayed to a police back office where personnel would verify the incidents before enacting any enforcement actions. The system aims to encourage responsible driving by imposing increasingly severe penalties for repeat offenders.

If an individual commits five offenses within two years, they may no longer be able to pay routine fines and would instead need to appear in court and potentially face harsher legal repercussions, including license revocation. Obeng emphasized that the implementation of TraffiTech is part of the Ghana Police Service's ongoing efforts to modernize traffic enforcement and reduce accidents resulting from traffic violations.
