Police arrest man over N3.5m romance scam, sextortion

The Nigeria Police Force's National Cybercrime Centre has arrested Abdulwajeed Abdullahi, commonly known as "Captain Junaid," over a N3.5 million romance scam and alleged sextortion. This arrest took place at his residence in Kano State on August 4, 2026. The investigation began after a female victim reported the suspect's actions on July 28, 2026, alleging that he had engaged her in an online romantic relationship, demanding $3,000, and threatening to release her intimate photos and videos if payment was not made. Further investigation uncovered another victim who lost N3.5 million to the same suspect.
