PKR Youth man accuses Akmal of moving goalpost on Tabung Haji RCI

PKR Youth information chief Danish Hairudin has accused Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh of moving the goalposts regarding the Tabung Haji (TH) royal commission of inquiry (RCI) report. Danish stated that Akmal was one of the most vocal advocates for making the RCI report public and holding accountable those responsible for mismanaging TH funds.

However, he claimed that Akmal has since questioned the RCI's findings because the disclosed information does not align with the political narrative he wishes to promote. Danish questioned in a Facebook post whether everyone should adhere to Akmal and Umno's lead until they receive the answer Umno desires. The RCI was founded in 2021 and delivered its report in July 2022, with the findings released on July 29 of that year.

The report revealed that TH's financial problems stemmed from excessive hibah commitments, questionable accounting practices, insufficient oversight, ambitious investment strategies, and growing subsidy obligations, which led to TH reporting a RM3.4 billion profit in 2017 when it should have disclosed a net loss of RM1.4 billion, resulting in a nearly RM4.8 billion discrepancy.

Danish argued that the RCI examined creative accounting practices, governance weaknesses, and investment losses but that Akmal and Umno have become silent on these matters while emphasizing the absence of named individuals. Danish urged for the complete disclosure of all information and open debate, even on uncomfortable topics related to Umno itself.

He emphasized that if one genuinely seeks the truth, it must be accepted in its entirety and not searched for selectively.
