Pierrefonds residents flooded again after rain, raising concerns over infrastructure

Heavy rainfall has once again triggered flooding in Pierrefonds, causing distress among residents who have endured multiple floods in recent months. Chad Watson, who has experienced flooding three times, including in August 2024 and June, expressed emotional distress, stating that he suffers from anxiety and PTSD whenever rain is forecasted.

Residents worry about insurance coverage, with one neighbor, Kim, losing coverage after two water-related claims in the past three years, making it difficult to secure coverage for repairs. Cleanup efforts are underway along Monk Street, with flooring and drywall removed from affected homes. On Fleming Street, residents report feeling neglected despite having to monitor infrastructure and contact the city for assistance, only to be left on hold.

Residents claim the pump responsible for preventing flooding is experiencing issues with its battery, raising concerns about its reliability during future storms. Borough Mayor Jim Beis stated that he cannot comment further on the matter due to ongoing litigation, leaving residents frustrated and concerned about the timeline for receiving answers on how their homes will be safeguarded against future flooding.
