Over 47,000 jobs saved in South Africa through CCMA interventions

The Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) has played a significant role in saving over 47,000 jobs in South Africa over the past year, according to Minister of Employment and Labour Nomakhosazana Meth. In response to questions from EFF MP Tebogo Mokwele about measures to tackle unemployment and hold corporations accountable, Meth outlined various initiatives undertaken by the department.

During the last financial year, the department provided counselling to more than 357,000 work seekers, placed 116,000 work seekers in employment opportunities, and registered over 1.1 million work seekers. The CCMA's interventions contributed to job preservation, with more than 47,000 jobs saved.

To ensure compliance with labour laws and protect workers' rights, the department's Inspection Services conducted over 309,000 inspections. The department is working with the National Pathway Management Network (NPMN) and the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative (PYEI) to create demand in key sectors, such as manufacturing and agriculture.

The NPMN created more than 96,418 employment opportunities, and the Department introduced the National Labour Migration Policy and amendments to the Employment Services Act, which will further generate employment opportunities for local South Africans.
