One Plant, 28 Cobs! Rare Maize Phenomenon In MP's Sardarpur Draws Crowds, Baffles Agricultural Expert

Sardarpur, Madhya Pradesh: In a rural village 35 kilometers from the town center, an unusual agricultural occurrence has taken place. At Chirakhan village, a lone maize plant has yielded an astonishing 28 cobs, captivating the attention of locals and visitors alike. Farmer Ashok Kumar Jaiswal planted roughly four hundred maize seeds in a plot measuring 100 by 60 yards.

While inspecting his crop, he observed one plant displaying an extraordinary number of cobs, resembling bananas. Upon counting, he confirmed that there were indeed 28 cobs growing on a single stalk, an experience he claims to be unprecedented in his 25 years of farming. The discovery swiftly spread amongst the villagers and farmers, who now make daily visits to witness the unique sight.

Dhar district agricultural scientist Dhan Singh Mandloi expressed astonishment, asserting that no maize variety in India has ever recorded such a yield on an individual plant. He noted that a similar incident in the United States, involving 20 to 22 cobs on one plant, was once recognized in the Guinness Book of Records decades ago, a record this plant has surpassed.

Mandloi stated that due to the plant being isolated among four hundred others, determining a scientific cause would be difficult, even with laboratory testing. He intends to seek advice from senior experts in Delhi and personally visit the site. He has also advised Jaiswal to provide support to the plant using bamboo until the researchers examine it.
