Old houses, new tricks at Malaysia Heritage Studios

Malaysia Heritage Studios in Ayer Keroh offers visitors an immersive experience of Malaysian heritage through traditional houses and interactive elements. Inside a Kedah house, guests encounter a glowing padi field under LED lights and bird chirping sounds, providing a more engaging way to experience the state's rice fields.

Representative Ainatul Mardhiah Roslan explained that visual displays and hands-on activities have become essential to attract younger visitors who enjoy taking photos and physically engaging with exhibits. The studios present 13 traditional houses, each showcasing architectural styles from different Malaysian states, allowing visitors to learn about past values and customs.

The houses offer clues into family life, privacy, and daily routines through their structure and layout. For instance, the division of spaces in a traditional Kelantan house reflects Islamic practices and privacy within households. Visitors can also engage in traditional games, batik-making, and witness cultural performances daily at 12:30pm and 3:30pm.

Additionally, the attraction displays local folklore characters such as Naga Tasik Chini and Sang Kelembai, enriching the experience with stories passed down through generations. Open daily from 10am to 6pm, the studios welcome Malaysian and international visitors, with entry fees starting at RM50.60 for adults.
