Okin Biscuits restarts production after 17 years

Okin Biscuits has resumed operations at one of its factories in Kwara State, Nigeria, after a 17-year hiatus. The news was shared on the company's Facebook page on August 26, 2026. The company's production line, which was rendered inactive after the theft of critical electronic components, has rolled out biscuits during a technical trial run, although further testing is needed before the biscuits hit the shelves.

The theft of cables, frequency drives, contactors, motors, and other electronic components left the production line idle for the past 17 years. Okin Biscuits has since rebuilt the line and conducted a technical trial to ascertain its operational capability. The trial was focused on the functionality of the line, not the final product's appearance, color, or taste, which are yet to be addressed.

The company emphasized that additional testing, calibration, and rehabilitation will be carried out before full-scale production resumes. Moreover, Okin Biscuits revealed that IBEDC, the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, connected the factory to a 33kV Band A electricity grid, ensuring a steady power supply for the production process.

However, the company stressed that the biscuits must still pass rigorous testing and quality checks to meet their stringent taste and quality standards before being reintroduced to the market.
