NY mayor Mamdani makes a stink over RSS event, stirs up row among Indian diaspora

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has sparked controversy and controversy within the Indian diaspora by not supporting RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's planned appearance at a gathering scheduled for August 29. The event, titled "Universal Oneness Celebration," is organized by American Hindus for Engagement and Dialogue and is expected to draw around 5,000 Indian Americans.

Mayor Mamdani stated that he doesn't support the rally, but acknowledged that his office might not have the jurisdiction to cancel it. This stance has drawn harsh criticism from some Indian political parties and RSS supporters, who termed it as "divisive," "unwarranted," and "appeasement politics."
