Nita Ambani’s Pattachitra sari features a ‘Tree of Life’

To mark India's 80th Independence Day, Nita Ambani honored the nation with a specially crafted sari, showcasing the historic Pattachitra tradition from Odisha. The event took place at the Grand Theatre of NMACC in Mumbai, where the director of Reliance Industries shared her vision of portraying India's rich history through music, dance, and drama. For this special occasion, Nita Ambani donned a stunning sari, exclusively designed by Swadesh, which paid homage to Odisha's revered Pattachitra art form.

The dazzling ensemble, shared on Instagram by Swadesh Online, featured a luminous Tussar silk woven by master weavers of Raghurajpur in Odisha. At the center of the saree, the Tree of Life, inspired by the Vedic Ashvattha, beautifully captured the essence of creation, continuity, and the interconnectedness of all life. Each intricate leaf, bird, and branch was meticulously painted in the distinctive Pattachitra style, transforming the saree into a living canvas that embodied Odisha's unique artistic heritage.

Pattachitra, a sacred art form originating from the temple towns of Odisha, dates back to at least the 5th century. It is closely linked with devotional practices and each frame narrates tales of deities with remarkable detail and rich, natural pigments. Patachitra artists, known as 'Patuas', have been creating these paintings and composing accompanying songs for generations, using them as powerful tools for social commentary and preservation of cultural narratives.
