Newcastle come from behind to reach League Cup third round

Newcastle United staged a remarkable comeback to advance to the League Cup third round, defeating Championship side West Bromwich Albion 3-2. The match, held at St James Park, saw all three Premier League teams perform well. Everton thrashed Preston North End 4-0, with Thierno Barry scoring a hat-trick for the Toffees. Tottenham Hotspur also progressed, defeating Charlton Athletic 5-1.

Newcastle trailed early on, as Isaac Price scored a curling free kick in the 19th minute, but they quickly equalized in the 38th minute through Bazoumana Toure. Barnes came off the bench to score twice, first in the 48th minute and then in the 81st, securing the win for Newcastle. The 2025 League Cup winners had previously reached the semi-finals in three of the past four seasons under Eddie Howe.

Meanwhile, Bradford City secured a 4-2 victory over Burnley in a penalty shootout after a goalless 90 minutes.
