NAFCO trial involving Hanan Abdul-Wahab adjourned to September 29 and 30

The trial of former NAFCO CEO Hanan Abdul-Wahab, along with his wife Faiza Seidu Wuni, remains on track for September 29 and 30, 2026. This rescheduling occurred after Abdul-Wahab's lawyer, Godfred Yeboah Dame, presented a medical excuse through the defendant. The situation arose following Yeboah Dame's absence at a prior hearing, as Abdul-Wahab informed the Accra High Court that his counsel had been dealing with health issues.

Initially, the prosecution raised doubts about the validity of the explanation, as they contended the defense had not provided supporting medical documentation. Consequently, the court granted the adjournment to allow for the appearance of counsel to address the application for a stay of proceedings. The charges against Abdul-Wahab and his wife include financial and procurement-related offenses such as theft, fraud by false pretenses, wilful financial loss to the state, abuse of public office for personal gain, and dishonest money laundering.

The alleged sum in question amounts to approximately GH¢78 million. The case has faced numerous legal hurdles since its inception, including the High Court's rejection of a request to dismiss the charges and the defense's filing of an appeal at the Court of Appeal for a trial stay.
