MP Wilberforce Ojiambo censures Murkomen over his remarks on Homa Bay chaos

Linda Mwananchi Member of Parliament Wilberforce Oundo has expressed disappointment that Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen was entrusted with such an important role, following the chaos that ensued during the recent rally in Homa Bay County. Speaking to a local media outlet on August 26, 2026, Oundo took issue with Murkomen's assertion that the team should not have ventured into the area if they were aware of potential trouble.

The MP dismissed this argument, comparing it to suggesting people avoid the Central Business District due to pickpockets or abstain from attending work because of workplace hazards. Oundo maintains that security is the police's responsibility and it is the duty of citizens, as long as they are law-abiding, to freely travel throughout the country to promote their political agenda.

He claims the Linda Mwananchi team had notified the authorities ahead of time about their visit, thereby not ambushing the police. Oundo suggests that blaming political figures for security issues is misplaced, as it falls under the purview of the police to manage. He concluded by jokingly suggesting that if authorities are aware of a system's shortcomings, they shouldn't be caught off guard by its failures.

Oundo is not the first to criticize Murkomen's management of the Interior Ministry. Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua recently criticized Murkomen's handling of the sensitive portfolio, arguing that it would have been better suited to someone with more experience, such as former Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinet or Roads Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir.
