MoEHE charts more resilient and student-focused path for 2026-27

The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) has reaffirmed its commitment to student wellbeing, educational quality, national identity, and digital empowerment for the 2026-27 academic year. At a meeting in Doha, the ministry emphasized the importance of learning from past experiences to build institutional readiness and flexibility.

Undersecretary of the ministry, Dr Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Nuaimi, highlighted that the new academic year signifies a renewed dedication to providing higher-quality education that can address current needs while preparing students for the future. He stressed that education should equip students with knowledge and skills, while also fostering their confidence and maintaining their identity, values, and sense of belonging.

The meeting reflected the ministry's educational vision with the theme "People First, Authenticity is Strength, and Digitalisation is Empowerment." This theme emphasizes placing students at the center of the educational process, building a solid foundation of identity and values, and leveraging technology to enhance learning and creativity.

The ministry highlighted the significance of a successful start to the academic year, which requires collaboration between schools, families, and various state institutions. Families were encouraged to support students' psychological readiness, establish healthy routines, and engage actively with schools and their children's progress. Student safety and wellbeing were also prioritized, including ensuring safe transportation, school environments, and support for physical and psychological health.

Dr Al Nuaimi noted that the previous academic year provided valuable lessons on the importance of preparedness and flexibility in the face of exceptional circumstances. The use of remote learning and electronic assessments demonstrated the value of technology in maintaining educational continuity, while the adaptability of the educational workforce underscored the importance of investing in institutional capacity.

The annual meeting was part of the ministry's Back-to-School campaign, which aims to strengthen communication with students, families, and the educational community through various programs and activities. One new initiative this year is "First Step," a program for Grade 1 students that recognizes the impact of a child's first school experience on their relationship with learning, safety, belonging, and responsibility.
