MMEA clears Karakit-Kudat ferry after passenger safety concerns go viral

KUDAT, Aug 26 — In response to concerns raised on social media about the safety and comfort of passengers on a ferry operating on the Karakit-Kudat route, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Kudat Zone conducted an inspection on Sunday. The inspection, conducted by Maritime Commander Hasbullah Omar, found no violations or breaches of regulations related to the ferry.

The number of passengers on board was found to be within the permitted limit and did not exceed the vessel's approved capacity. The inspection aimed to ensure that ferry operators consistently adhere to safety requirements and relevant regulations. Omar emphasized that MMEA would continue to monitor and inspect ferry operations to uphold maritime safety standards.

He stressed that MMEA takes all public information and complaints seriously, especially those related to passenger safety and vessel operations in Kudat waters.
