Michigan football goes back-to- school-shopping with $250 per youth

As Michigan football prepares for the upcoming season, the Wolverines recently took time off from fall camp to bring some cheer to the kids of southeast Michigan. The team visited the Park Ridge Community Center in Ann Arbor, partnering with Washtenaw Community College since 2012 to offer after-school and summer activities for local youth.

Each Michigan football player was accompanied by a student and handed a $250 gift card to Meijer, where they could purchase anything they needed, from clothes and school supplies to snacks and fun items. This generous gesture was a dream come true for many families, including Julia Martin, a single mother of two young football fans who currently relies on disability benefits due to Hidradenitis.

The opportunity to receive essential items for her children brought immense joy to Martin, who expressed gratitude for being able to provide for her kids despite her limited financial resources. The Michigan players seemed equally thrilled, with many sharing their excitement about the chance to "bless these kids and parents with an amazing opportunity."

The event highlighted the strong bond between the football team and the community it serves, with Meijer joining as a sponsor for the stadium this fall.
