Meta’s $18 billion settlement leaves out the child protections New Mexico already won at trial, its Attorney General says

The settlement, which still represents a significant victory, requires Meta to limit teen usage to two hours per day, block notifications at night, and ban certain AI features.

However, Torrez believes the deal falls short of the full protections New Mexico achieved in court. Meta's Chief Legal Officer, C.J. Mahoney, called for other platforms like TikTok and YouTube to adopt the new rules. Critics argue the settlement focuses too much on parental controls and fails to address the most harmful aspects of the platform.
