Medical lecturers set for strike as 14 NAMDA branches back action

The Nigerian Association of Medical and Dental Academics has announced that 14 out of its 17 branches have voted to stage a three-day warning strike, set to begin next week. This warning strike, as directed by the National Executive Council, will be total and comprehensive across all medical schools in the country. The move comes after the association expressed disappointment over the Federal Government's lack of response to the concerns of medical lecturers amid the crisis of shortage and the worsening "Japa" syndrome.

The association's Acting Secretary-General, Prof. Aniekan Peter, highlighted several issues affecting the medical lecturers, including the failure of the government to finalize negotiations on the conditions of service, non-payment of MCATA, and the non-payment of Earned Academic Allowance, among others. Peter urged the government to return to the negotiating table to resolve the issues before the strike becomes inevitable, condemning the government's decision to mass-produce doctors without investing in the training of these doctors.
