Man who tried to kill pregnant woman pleads guilty

In Erickson, a 21-year-old man pleaded guilty to attempted murder for brutally assaulting a pregnant woman during a home invasion in 2023. Carter Prince, then 18, cut the 30-year-old woman, Candace McMunn, throat and repeatedly stabbed her while she slept in her basement. McMunn, now 34, awoke to Prince crawling into her bed, who then hit her head, striking her 20 to 30 times before slashing her throat with a knife.

McMunn pushed his thumb out of her eye and struggled with the intruder until she managed to escape to her neighbors for help. She suffered multiple cuts and lacerations across her body, with a notable slash across her neck that was stitched after police interviewed her. Her left hand was swollen, and she had an open stab wound on her forearm.

The tip of a butterfly knife used in the attack had broken off in McMunn's skull and was later removed from her. Prince claimed the injury was from a skateboard accident, but DNA evidence linked him to the knife, hoodie, T-shirt, and bloodstains found at the scene, leading to his guilty plea.
