Man Utd's Fernandes crowned PFA player of the year

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes was awarded the PFA player of the year title on Tuesday. This marked the Portuguese international's second PFA award, following his victory in the Football Writers Association's footballer of the year accolade in May. Fernandes set a Premier League record by recording 21 assists during the 2023-2024 season, surpassing Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne's previous mark.

The 31-year-old also contributed with nine goals as the Red Devils overcame a challenging start and secured a return to the Champions League. He expressed his pride, stating that it is a "very proud moment" and that the opposition players are not always easy to vote for. Khadija Shaw of Manchester City claimed the women's award for the second year in a row, scoring 21 goals to claim her third Golden Boot and help City secure their first Women's Super League title in a decade.

Other City players recognized included Nico O'Reilly, who was named men's young player of the year, and Erling Haaland, Rayan Cherki, and Antoine Semenyo in the team of the year. Arsenal's players included David Raya, Gabriel, William Saliba, Jurrien Timber, and Declan Rice.
