Mahama unveils Bawku Revitalisation Fund Committee

President John Mahama recently unveiled a five-member committee, the Bawku Revitalisation Fund Committee, responsible for overseeing the management of a one-billion-cedis development fund. The committee, chaired by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, includes representatives from various regions and local governments. The committee will oversee the allocation of funds for infrastructure and other projects to revitalize the conflict-ridden town of Bawku and its surrounding areas.

President Mahama expressed his confidence in the committee's ability to handle the task with integrity and efficiency, recalling his announcement of the end of conflict in Bawku following the 2025 report from the Otumfuo Mediation Committee. Since then, the security situation has improved, and he has commended the security services for their efforts to restore safety and security in the region.

With safety restored, the President announced the allocation of the billion-cedis fund and emphasized the importance of implementing the revitalization plan to transform Bawku back into a thriving commercial center. The President also highlighted ongoing projects in Bawku, such as the Tamne Irrigation Dam, which has been impacted by the recent conflicts. He expressed his satisfaction in being able to resume these development projects and benefit the entire area.

Chief Naba Abugri Cletus Akolwin, representing the Bawku Naba, praised President Mahama for his significant investment in the Kosak area and expressed his confidence in the project's ability to restore Bawku to its former glory. The Naba extended an invitation to President Mahama to attend the sod-cutting ceremony, symbolizing the beginning of the revitalization projects and the leaders' commitment to maintaining peace in Bawku.
