MACT awards Rs 21 crore to families of HUL managers killed in 2018 road accident

The Motor Accident Claim Tribunal (MACT) in Mumbai recently awarded Rs 21 crore to the families of two senior Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) managers who lost their lives in a tragic road accident on Mumbai-Goa National Highway in 2018. Presiding officer SE Bangar noted that Girish Barve, driving the car, and Rajesh Wadalkar, who was traveling with him, were the victims.

The families of Barve and Wadalkar had sought compensation for the loss of their loved ones, including dependency, prospects, consortium, funeral expenses, and estate loss. The tribunal awarded Rs 8.92 crore to Barve's family and Rs 4.42 crore to Wadalkar's family, both with an interest rate of 7.5 percent per annum. The accident occurred on July 1, 2018, near Dabhil School in Ratnagiri district when the car collided head-on with a tanker that had entered the wrong lane at an excessive speed.
