Lito Sousa, a 59-year-old aviation influencer with over 3.7 million subscribers on YouTube, is fighting for his life after being diagnosed with a rare and fatal neurodegenerative disease called Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD). His wife, Mila Seidl, revealed the diagnosis after months of Lito suffering from loss of motor coordination.

CJD is a degenerative condition with a high mortality rate, often causing death within a year of diagnosis. Despite its rarity, affecting only 350 to 600 people annually in the United States, Lito's case has garnered national attention due to his influential YouTube channel, "Aviões e músicas," which aims to demystify aviation for those with flying fears.

The Broad Institute in Cambridge, Massachusetts, which specializes in genomic research and has a dedicated laboratory for prion diseases like CJD, has received numerous requests from the public to include Lito in experimental treatments. While the treatment is still in the testing phase and has not yet been approved for human use, the Broad Institute has acknowledged the widespread mobilization and is considering Lito for the experimental trials.
