Former Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has requested a court order to compel domain registrar MYNIC Bhd to reveal the identity of the owner behind a news portal article that accused him of defamation. According to a report by the New Straits Times, Khairy has filed a civil suit to obtain the identity of the registered owner of the domain focusmalaysia.my.

This follows the publication of an article on the portal titled "10 Reasons Why KJ Is Not Fit to Become Prime Minister, Malaysians Should Investigate His Past Fully" on March 10th of last year, written by an anonymous author using the pseudonym "Witness of Malpractice."

Khairy claims that the identity of the pseudonymous author remains unknown and will not be revealed without court intervention. His lawyer has already filed a complaint with Focus Malaysia Sdn Bhd on March 13th, but the company denies any ownership of the website in question, citing its disbandment of all business operations around 2018.

Khairy has requested documents related to the domain registration, including the original registration date, expiration date, the involved MYNIC, and any records of ownership changes. In their affidavit response, MYNIC stated that they possess information regarding the ownership and have no obstruction in disclosing the relevant information if directed by the court.

They claim that the company holding the registration as of March 10th, 2026, when the defamation-laden article was published, remained the registered owner. However, MYNIC contests Khairy's request for obtaining the court order to access documents, communication between the domain registration, registrant, and the pseudonymous author, arguing that the material is irrelevant or unnecessary for the defamation suit against Khairy.

The company asserts that it is a third party not liable and not the defendant named in Khairy's defamation suit.
