Jadavpur University clashes: Another panel member quits; cops seek CCTV clips
Jadavpur University witnessed clashes between two student organizations, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and Students Federation of India (SFI), last week. The committee tasked with investigating the incident has lost another member, Arunasis Goswami, vice-chancellor of Babasaheb Ambedkar Education University. Goswami resigned due to administrative commitments at his own university.
The committee's chairman, Prof Shubha Shankar Sarkar, had already quit due to objections from an affiliated teachers' organization. Clashes erupted on August 19 over an SFI meeting, leading to protests and encounters with police, who registered a case against alleged perpetrators. The police have sought CCTV footage from university authorities to identify potential suspects.
The inquiry committee's first meeting is set for Thursday, with students seeking assurance of security measures.
