Iran’s foreign ministry calls US economic plan to isolate Tehran 'pure parody'

Iran's foreign ministry spokesman, Esmaeil Baqaei, has mocked the US economic plan to isolate Tehran, calling it a "pure parody." In a post on X, Baqaei stated that Washington's Iran policy has reached a level of absurdity. He criticized the US for turning to Bahrain, a nation with minimal economic ties to Iran, to demonstrate the success of its "coalition."

This move comes after a recent call between US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Bahraini Finance Minister Sheikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, where they discussed the latest sanctions imposed on Tehran. Baqaei further pointed out that the sanctions are being extended to areas like Iranian sports and academic exchanges, which have already been largely inactive for years.

He described the US strategy as sanctioning entities that are already under sanctions and then labeling the lack of progress as a "coalition."
