Iowa Attorney General Says She’s Taking California to the Supreme Court Over Paramount-Warner Bros. Lawsuit

Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird has announced plans to take California's Attorney General Rob Bonta to the Supreme Court over the Paramount lawsuit. Bird published an op-ed in the Daily Wire, arguing that Paramount's acquisition of Warner Bros. would benefit the economy rather than harm it. She claims that 12 states have overridden this judgment for the entire country, and Iowans never got a vote.

Bird asserts that California is trying to be the country's regulator and defying common sense to raise costs around the country. She argues that this is a dispute between states and that only the U.S. Supreme Court can hear such cases. Bird states that without a Supreme Court ruling, Iowa would be walking into a case before a judge with no authority to decide a controversy between states.

She believes that if the merger between Paramount and Warner Bros. were to go through, it would increase competition and reduce costs for consumers. However, Bonta has stated that the state AGs are not interested in behavioral remedies and has not commented on Bird's op-ed.
