I asked Amaechi to apologise after NBA clash — Sowore

Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, requested that former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi apologize to him following a heated exchange at the Nigerian Bar Association’s Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt. Sowore stated that Amaechi benefited from the democracy that Sowore fought to establish in Nigeria, implying that Amaechi's political career would not have been possible under military rule.

Sowore, in an interview with Arise News, maintained his position that his activism provided him with a unique form of leadership experience, contrasting his leadership qualities with Amaechi's tenure as governor and minister. The presidential candidate criticized Amaechi's rail line project, stating that it had not delivered its intended benefits to the people of Rivers State.

Amaechi, the vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, defended his record, highlighting roads, primary schools, and railway projects constructed during his leadership. The exchange escalated when Amaechi warned Sowore to close his mouth during their disagreement. Sowore reiterated his stance against the removal of fuel subsidy, arguing that his opposition to the policy had been consistent before its implementation.
