Hathras Rape Murder Case: Allahabad HC Orders Victim’s Family Relocation To Noida Or Ghaziabad, Job For One Member

On August 26, 2026, the Allahabad High Court ordered the Uttar Pradesh government to relocate the family of the 2020 Hathras rape and murder victim to either Noida or Ghaziabad within three months. Additionally, the court mandated that one family member receive employment following the move. A bench comprised of Justice Rajan Roy and Justice Jaspreet Singh overturned the government's February 22, 2025, decision, which had proposed relocation options in Kasganj, Etah or Aligarh.

The court contended that the government neglected the family's request for relocation to Ghaziabad or Gautam Buddh Nagar, as the family had previously expressed apprehensions about remaining in Hathras and desired a move to Noida, a location where relatives are situated. The High Court had previously directed the state to consider such rehabilitation, taking into account factors such as the family's safety, social and economic wellbeing, and the children's educational continuity.

The court reproached the state for its "unnecessary resistance" in adhering to its earlier directives, and instructed the Additional Chief Secretary (Home) to file a compliance affidavit, warning that the officer would have to appear personally if the order is not met. The case stems from a suo motu inquiry initiated by the High Court in response to the 2020 Hathras occurrence.

The subsequent hearing is slated for November 30, 2026. The court emphasized the significance of prompt implementation to guarantee the family's safety, stability, dignity, rehabilitation, and the continuity of their children's education.
