Father of sailor aboard US aircraft carrier freed from immigration detention

A Nicaraguan father of a US Navy sailor, who was detained by Border Patrol agents during his son's deployment on an aircraft carrier, has been released from immigration detention, according to his family. Luis Manuel Aviles Roa was arrested in Key West, Florida, after a vehicle stop, despite possessing a driver's license, Social Security card, and work permit.

His son, Joshua Aviles, expressed his distress on Facebook, stating that he has been deployed for over nine months and is now serving his country while his father is locked away. Border Patrol agents claim that Aviles Roa entered the US illegally and will remain in detention pending removal proceedings. The father's status change was not immediately explained by the Department of Homeland Security or Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
