Ex-Arsenal Ramsdale requests Southampton u21 appearance

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has requested an appearance for Southampton's u21 team, according to the club's manager, Tonda Eckhert. Ramsdale, 28, started in a Premier League Cup match against Blackburn Rovers on August 14th, where he kept a clean sheet in a 4-0 victory for the u21 side. Eckhert revealed that Ramsdale had explicitly asked for the chance to play.

Southampton's manager explained that they had openly discussed the situation with Ramsdale and his new teammates, Daniel Peretz and George Long. Eckhert emphasized Ramsdale's professionalism and dedication, stating that the club provided him with everything needed to get in the best condition possible, even if it meant playing in matches.

Although Ramsdale had a busy season in 2025/26, loaned out to Newcastle United and making 23 appearances across all competitions, his chances of gaining senior minutes with Southampton this season remain slim. The goalkeeper's situation is further complicated by the fact that his time at Arsenal is likely up at the end of the season, as they hold a sell-on clause over his contract.
