Europe's Solheim Cup captain Nordqvist announces playing retirement

August 26: Sweden's Solheim Cup captain, Anna Nordqvist, has revealed her retirement from professional golf following an illustrious 18-year career. The 39-year-old Swedish golfer announced her decision in a video on the LPGA website, stating she was retiring to prioritize her health and family life. This announcement came as she prepared to lead Europe in the upcoming Solheim Cup at Bernardus Golf Club in the Netherlands from September 11 to 13.

Nordqvist, a three-time major winner, had participated in nine Solheim Cups, serving as vice-captain for the past two editions. Europe is aiming to reclaim the prestigious trophy this year after the Americans secured their victory on home soil in 2024. Nordqvist expressed her gratitude in the statement, saying, "It's with a grateful heart I am retiring from playing professional golf in Boston this week.

I don't know how to say goodbye to something that means so much to me, but this is going to be my last week walking inside the ropes competing on tour."
