El Jalapeño: New Olinia Carga EV will excel at moving tiny cargo miniscule distances, officials confirm

Mexican officials unveiled the Olinia Carga, an electric vehicle (EV) designed to transport ultra-light cargo over short distances. The vehicle was showcased in Mexico City's National Palace courtyard as part of the government's "mini-electromobility" initiative. The Olinia Carga is engineered to handle light items, such as flowers or cheese wheels, that would typically necessitate two people or a wheelbarrow.

The low-cost pickup boasts a maximum range of 120 kilometers and can carry up to 650 kilograms, provided the load is strategically distributed and wind conditions are favorable. A standout feature is the "low trunk" under the bed, which eliminates the need for a traditional engine, making it suitable for storing small items like umbrellas or tarps.

The vehicle's primary advantage is its ability to idle for extended periods without consuming gasoline. Capuano emphasized that this design directly addresses Mexico's unique micro-logistics needs, such as navigating tight city streets during tianguis (open-air markets). The Olinia Carga is projected to hit the market in late 2027 at a price point of around 150,000 pesos, with officials expressing confidence that it will dominate the niche market of delivering fresh goods across single city blocks.
