Eduardo Rodriguez strikes out 9 in 7 innings as Diamondbacks beat Cubs 2-0

Pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez played a significant role in the win, striking out nine batters over seven innings. The only run the Cubs managed to score was courtesy of Jordan Lawlar's home run in the sixth inning. Rodriguez's performance was even more impressive when compared to his previous outing, where he pitched five 2/3 scoreless innings against the Cincinnati Reds, allowing only one hit.

Jordan Lawlar led the Diamondbacks' offense, hitting a solo homer in the sixth inning, providing the team's only run against the Cubs' starter, Matthew Boyd. Boyd faced seven Diamondbacks batters over six innings, striking out five and issuing two walks. After a brief controversy involving third base coach Quintin Berry, Rodriguez ended the fifth inning without allowing a hit through a successful play on Tyrone Taylor's bloop single to first base.

Before Rodriguez's start, Cubs left-hander Boyd had been struggling, giving up 11 earned runs in his previous two starts. He managed to avoid giving up any hits to the Diamondbacks until Taylor's single.

With Rodriguez's fourth straight start win, the Diamondbacks continue their strong pitching performance. The Cubs, currently occupying the top wild-card spot in the National League, have lost five of their past seven games. Pitching for the Cubs in their upcoming series against Cincinnati will be left-hander David Peterson, who has a 7-7 record with a 5.17 ERA. Arizona has yet to announce a starting pitcher for their home opener against the San Francisco Giants, who will begin a four-game series on Thursday.
