DuckLabs to Join AWS, Projects to Remain Open Source

DuckLabs will join Amazon Web Services (AWS) starting early September, while DuckDB, DuckLake, Quack, and the broader community will continue to remain open source under the MIT license. This move aims to bring the technology to more developers and organizations, and to pursue ideas at a larger scale. DuckDB has experienced significant growth, with over one million daily downloads.

However, the team at DuckLabs recognized the need for a different setup to support this growth and to focus on the technical work and open-source community. DuckLabs and AWS have been collaborating for over a year, and this partnership will help DuckDB reach a broader audience. The DuckDB Foundation, an organization representing the nonprofit nature of DuckDB, will continue to steward these projects, and the DuckLabs team will remain together in Amsterdam.
