Dual U.S.-Canada citizen arrested in Ucluelet, wanted for lewd conduct with a minor

A dual U.S. and Canadian citizen, Donald Steven Lang, 62, was apprehended in Ucluelet, British Columbia, on Saturday. The arrest came after his indictment in Hawaii for the sexual exploitation of a child. Ucluelet RCMP learned of Lang's whereabouts on that day. According to court papers, Lang allegedly produced sexually explicit images of a minor between September 2024 and December 2024 while aboard his 52-foot sailboat, the Ishi.

Lang, an amateur sailor who frequently visited Hawaii, was found with his boat and arrested without incident. Assistant Attorney General A. Tysen Duva of the Justice Department's Criminal Division emphasized the importance of protecting children from sexual predators. He stated that his department will continue to pursue the alleged offender and collaborate with law enforcement to bring Lang back to the U.S. for trial.

Lang has a prior indictment for child sexual abuse in Idaho, dating back to 2003-2007. If found guilty, he faces a minimum of 15 years and a maximum of 30 years in prison, along with supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000. An indictment is an allegation, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
