Delhi gets nodal cybercrime unit to tackle online frauds, ransomware

Delhi has established a new nodal agency, the Delhi Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (D4C), under its police department to combat various forms of cybercrimes. Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu approved the creation of D4C, which will focus on financial frauds, online harassment, crimes against women and children, ransomware, online radicalization, cyber sabotage, and public-order disruption.

D4C will operate under the administrative control of the Commissioner of Police, Delhi, and be led by a Chief Executive Officer of Joint Commissioner of Police rank who will report to the Special CP. The center will adopt an integrated, technology-driven, and victim-centric approach to managing cybercrime. The D4C will consist of four main wings, each headed by a DCP-rank officer: administrative, cyber investigation, operations, and online crimes against women and children.

A D4C police station will be established to handle cybercrime cases across Delhi. The cyber investigation wing will investigate high-value, complex cases, while the operations wing will analyze crime data, trends, and behaviors to identify emerging threats and implement predictive policing. The cyber threats division will monitor cyber threats, analyze trends, and generate intelligence, while the cyber security division will protect government systems, critical infrastructure, and public digital assets.
