‘Committed freedom fighter’, IPI mourns Dotun Oladipo

The Nigerian chapter of the International Press Institute (IPI Nigeria) has mourned the loss of journalist, publisher and entrepreneur, Mr Dotun Oladipo. On Tuesday, 25 August 2026, Mr Oladipo passed away in Lagos. IPI Nigeria described Mr Oladipo as an excellent journalist and passionate defender of press freedom, stating that his qualities made him highly dependable, resourceful, professional, amiable and deeply committed to the Institute.

He was appointed Chairman of its Programmes Committee in 2024, and his dedication led to significant contributions to the Institute's activities and successes. Despite the demands of running The Eagle Online, Mr Oladipo consistently made time to fulfill assignments from IPI Nigeria and played a major role in the Institute's 2025 Annual General Meeting and Conference.

He was also a key pillar of the 2026 AGM and Conference Planning Committee. Mr Oladipo had recently demonstrated his commitment by traveling from Lagos to Abeokuta to represent IPI Nigeria at an important event on the same day as another scheduled engagement in Lagos. He left an indelible legacy in Nigeria’s media industry, having made significant contributions to both traditional and digital journalism.

IPI Nigeria extended heartfelt condolences to Mr Oladipo’s family, colleagues, friends, and the entire staff of The Eagle Online, praying for strength and fortitude during this difficult time. The statement concluded, "May the gentle soul of our dear brother, colleague and friend rest in perfect peace."
