Bodies of woman, her 5 children recovered from lake in Karnataka’s Vijayapura

Six bodies were discovered floating in Bhutnal lake, located near Vijaypura city, on Wednesday, August 28, 2026. The villagers spotted the bodies and promptly informed the police. At present, the identities of the deceased remain to be ascertained. Emergency services were dispatched to the location, with fire and rescue personnel working to retrieve the bodies.

The cause of death is yet unknown, but police speculate that the victims may have inadvertently fallen into the lake while visiting it. The bodies were found strewn along the lake's edge by the villagers. DySP S. Nagaraj, along with sub inspector Sitaram Lamani and other police staff, are on the ground. Further details are expected to emerge following a thorough police investigation and subsequent postmortem examinations.
