‘BJP is turning police into weapons to evade accountability’: Rahul Gandhi on Bihar stir

Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi criticized the BJP-led government in Bihar on Wednesday, accusing them of weaponizing the police to evade accountability in the student protests. Students and job aspirants in the state are protesting at Gardanibagh over recruitment examinations and government jobs. They demand a proposed fourth Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE-4), a single-stage PT-mains examination, removal of negative marking, and 100% domicile-based recruitment.

Gandhi questioned the irregularities in recruitment exams, lack of action on allegations of paper leaks, and the continuous tampering with the future of the youth. He stated that instead of answering the students' concerns, the government is using batons, water cannons, and detaining protesters. In Siwan, even firing was reported on protesters using an AK-47.

Gandhi emphasized that this is not just about police action; it is a reflection of the BJP government's mindset, which has no answers and resorts to weaponizing the police to avoid accountability. The tensions escalated in Patna on August 25 as hundreds of protesters marched towards the residence of Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhury, clashing with security personnel at Dak Bungalow Chowk.
