Baleba completes £70m Man Utd move from Brighton

Cameroonian midfielder Carlos Baleba has completed a £70 million transfer from Brighton to Manchester United. The Old Trafford club paid an initial £65 million, with potential add-ons of £5 million. Brighton negotiated a sell-on clause for the 22-year-old, who signed a five-year contract with United, including an option for an additional year. Baleba expressed his excitement about joining the club of his dreams and working with Michael Carrick, praising the club's ambition and future prospects.

This move comes after United suffered a 2-0 defeat to Hull City in their Premier League opener, with Baleba making his debut as full-back Santos and youri Tielemans made their midfield debuts. United had shown interest in Baleba last year but ultimately decided to pursue him after Brighton's asking price was lower than their initial valuation of over £100 million.

Baleba, who joined Brighton from Lille in 2023, has made 112 appearances for the club, scoring four goals and 31 in the Premier League last season. He is currently recovering from an ankle injury sustained during Brighton's pre-season training camp in Austria.
