A lecturer at a university has partially confessed to the murder of a foreign student. The 56-year-old lecturer, whose name has not been released, reportedly told investigators that he killed the student in the early hours of the 20th. Police had been searching for the lecturer for several days after the 25-year-old student, also unnamed, went missing. The body of the student has not yet been found. The lecturer is said to have made the confession during an interrogation by police. Further details of the case have not been released.

The composite Kospi index rose 2 percent to start the day on a high note, attempting to reclaim the 2,700 mark. The Korea Exchange said on the 22nd that Kospi started at 2,693.71, up 47.99 points from the previous day. Kosdaq also started at 867.64, up 13.91 points. US stock markets closed higher on the 21st, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average rising 1.06 percent and the S&P 500 adding 0.75 percent. Shares of Nvidia, which announced strong quarterly earnings after the market close, soared 9.32 percent. The won-dollar exchange rate started at 1,336.0 won, down 2.1 won from the previous day.
