Apple Refreshes Mac mini, Mac Studio With M5 And M6 Chips

Apple has refreshed its Mac lineup with new M-series chips, enhancing AI performance across the Mac mini and Mac Studio. The new Mac mini features the M6 chip, Apple's first 2nm processor, boasting a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU with a Neural Accelerator in each core. It also includes an updated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) with a dual 16-core neural engine, offering 4x faster AI performance and 2x faster graphics compared to its M4 predecessor.

Users can choose between 16GB and 32GB of RAM, with storage starting at 256GB and going up to 2TB. The M5 Pro chip, available for higher-end models, brings a 15-core CPU and a 12-core GPU, along with a 16-core NPU. It offers 24GB of RAM, expandable up to 64GB, and storage ranging from 512GB to 8TB. The Mac Studio also sees an upgrade, with the M5 Max and M5 Ultra processors.

The M5 Max retains its March introduction, featuring an 18-core CPU and 32-core or 40-core GPU. Memory options range from 32GB to 128GB, while storage starts at 512GB and extends to 8TB. The standout is the M5 Ultra, a quad-die architecture with 4.4TB/s of bandwidth, offering 1.25x higher single-threaded performance and 1.3x higher multi-threaded performance compared to the M3 Ultra.

It supports configurations with 30-core or 36-core CPUs and 64-core or 80-core GPUs, with 96GB of memory to start, expandable to 512GB. Storage begins at 1TB, reaching up to 8TB. The Mac Studio supports WiFi 7, Bluetooth 6, and has PCIe Gen 6 support for faster storage performance. It can connect to up to eight displays, or four Apple Studio Display XDR monitors at 5K/120Hz.

The new desktops are priced higher than their predecessors, with the M6 Mac mini starting at RM3,799 and the Mac Studio M5 Max beginning at RM10,999. Pre-orders begin on 27 August 2026, and general sales start on 22 September 2026.
