Anthropic Escalates Cloud Spending With $45 Billion Nscale Agreement

Anthropic has committed to paying $45 billion for cloud computing services from Nscale's data center in West Virginia, which is scheduled to commence operations by late 2027, according to Bloomberg. This six-year agreement encompasses approximately 460 megawatts of power. The specifics of the agreement between Anthropic and Nscale were not immediately available for confirmation.

Anthropic has also entered into other substantial agreements for computing power in recent months, including a $50 billion deal with Fluidstack, a $10 billion arrangement with Volta Infra Holdings, and another $45 billion commitment to SpaceX. The AI sector is projected to contribute to roughly one-third of America's economic expansion, driven by tech companies' investments, data center projects' impact on construction, employment, and municipal revenues, as well as an AI-related stock market surge boosting household wealth and consumer spending.

In the United States, the five major players in AI data centers—Alphabet, Amazon, Meta, Microsoft, and Oracle—doubled their debt over the past five years to finance their AI initiatives, adding approximately $350 billion to their debt. Anthropic and Nscale are both preparing for initial public offerings, with Anthropic potentially raising up to $100 billion in its IPO, targeting a valuation of around $2 trillion.

Nscale aims to raise up to $3 billion in its IPO, which could occur as early as September. Nscale is in the process of developing data centers in Norway and West Virginia and has disclosed a total contracted revenue of $51 billion, according to the report.
