Anthropic, the artificial intelligence company, has agreed to spend $45 billion on computational power before its initial public offering (OPV). The firm has struck a deal with Nscale to lease computing capacity for its primary data center project in West Virginia, according to Bloomberg. This commitment adds to other significant infrastructure commitments made by Anthropic this year.

In May, Anthropic signed a nearly $45 billion contract with SpaceX for access to computing power at SpaceX's Colossus data centers, operated by Elon Musk's group. Nscale plans to use Nvidia's upcoming Vera Rubin chips to provide computing power to Anthropic. The rollout of this infrastructure is expected to progress from the end of 2027.

This move reflects the intense competition among major AI firms for access to chips, energy, and data centers as computing demand has become a major bottleneck for the sector. Anthropic may make its debut on the New York Stock Exchange this summer with a historic share sale that could surpass SpaceX's record-breaking IPO from June.

AI executives anticipate Anthropic could debut with a valuation of around $2 trillion, more than doubling its valuation from its May financing round. The company generated $65 billion in annualized revenue by the end of July, seven times its revenue from the same period a year ago. This metric, estimating how much revenue the AI company would generate in a 12-month period if it maintained its latest weekly sales, has skyrocketed since May, when Anthropic reported $47 billion in annualized revenue.
